A wave of Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants nostalgia washed over us when America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn announced they would be facing off on Lip Sync Battle this week. The two have continued to impress us with their acting (and their activism) since their days as Carmen Lowell and Tibby Rollins—so needless to say, we were ready for this battle to go down. And the actresses didn’t disappoint when they took to the stage. Ferrera wowed the audience by channeling hip-hop queen Missy Elliott, and Tamblyn fired back with some political satire. The whole thing was incredible.
Ferrera started the battle off strong, lip syncing a rendition of Missy Elliott‘s 2002 hit “Gossip Folks” that would have done any rapper proud. Then Tamblyn responded with a killer routine of her own. She projected a picture of Ferrera alongside presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton and sang Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know.” Ferrera has spoken out in support of Clinton in the past, and even gave a speech at this year’s Democratic National Convention. The two went back and forth with quality lip sync performances, ultimately bringing us to Tamblyn’s politically-charged final routine. The 33-year-old dressed up as Donald Trump (orange skin, bad wig, and all) and serenaded Ferrera with Color Me Badd’s “I Wanna Sex You Up.” Tamblyn displayed posters that said, “I [Heart] Hispanics,” and, “Make [America Ferrera] Great Again.” It was…a lot.
Both walked away victorious—knowing they’d given it their all. We were a little bummed Alexis Bledel and Blake Lively didn’t join them and transform Lip Sync Battle into the Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants reunion of our hopes and dreams, but Ferrera and Tamblyn didn’t need any help bringing down the house. Great work, ladies.
